Table Mountain is one of several natural beauties people flock to the Western Cape for during the festive season, but why don’t we think of Table Mountain as a metaphor? This is our opportunity to set up our tables and share it with everyone around us. We can use this metaphorical table to share precious moments and gifts not only with family and friends but with our neighbour and even the stranger we share this gorgeous province with. The Western Cape has many NPOs that have decked their table but need your help to make it a feast and a great celebration. Here are a number of NPOs you can assist to make this festive season one to remember:
MES has a number of initiatives happening in and around Johannesburg, where you can sponsor or give some essentials needed to make all these initiatives work. Have a look at their Cape Town wish list to see how you can help.
Also in the Western Cape, U-turn Homeless Ministries has an initiative called “Give Responsibly This Season”. Giving money to people on the streets can fuel addictions and dependency. Instead, people can purchase and give U-turn vouchers as well as importantly putting them in touch with U-turn’s social support team. Subscribe online to receive vouchers on a monthly basis on http://homeless.org.za/get-involved/ – vouchers and costs R45 for a pack of 5 vouchers.
Straatwerk in Cape Town has 4 events happening. On 21 December they will be hosting a celebration for women, on 22 December they have their street outreach and coffee room event for women involved in prostitution and on 25 December they have another Street outreach and home visits as well as a Christmas meal for all the participants. For more details on how to contribute have a look at their website.
Learn2Earn has a wishlist you can have a look at simply contact Aleks Jablonska on [email protected] to request their wishlist. You can also contribute to meeting these needs via a donation or by purchasing one of their beautiful Christmas gift bags showcased in theircatalogue.
CommonGood offers individuals Education and employment programmes and you can contribute by being a sponsor for an individual who needs to be part of this great initiative.
Life Child is currently caring for over 600 children within 12 preschools in Samora Machel and Kosovo. In addition, we have an emergency safety home, providing emergency safety care to the most vulnerable children in the community as well as our Life Child Preschool in The Leagues which provides quality Montessori education for 24 of the most vulnerable children in the surrounding community. During this Christmas season there are several ways to get involved:
- Donate towards our ‘Feed a Family’ initiative this Christmas. We are giving Food parcels to families of our sponsored children to support them during this Christmas season.
-
Donate a backpack and/or funds to purchase school uniforms for our sponsored children entering Primary School in 2018.
LifeChild will also be having an end of year celebration at our Life Child Preschool on Wednesday 6 December 2017. For more information, you can email us at [email protected] or call on 021 439 4721.”
So, dig deep and give with an open hand and see the beauty you can create in the Western Cape.
